Rohit Sharma Reveals Rishabh Pant's Smart Move in T20 WC Final

October 10, 20242 min read

The Hitman of Indian Cricket- Rohit Sharma spoke about one such act by Rishabh Pant behind the wickets that helped India change the momentum of the T20 World Cup 2024 final.

Everyone remembers Suryakumar Yadav taking a catch during the T20 World Cup 2024 final and the Hindi commentary box chanting long-on, long-on. Most people also remember the redemption of Hardik Pandya, who became the hero of the final after a poor outing in the IPL. And almost no one can forget Jasprit Bumrah's spell in the death overs that put pressure on David Miller and forced him to eventually commit a mistake.

However, India captain Rohit Sharma reminded people of something they would have never known about if he had not revealed it on The Kapil Sharma Show recently. When South Africa were 147/4 after 15 overs and needed two batsmen Heinrich Klaasen and Miller off one ball, India's wicket keeper Rishabh Pant adopted the oldest method to help his team.

Pant, who is making a comeback to the national team after nearly dying in a car accident a year and a half ago, adopted the oldest method to help his team. "When South Africa needed 30 runs from 30 balls, there was a quick break right before that. Pant used his intelligence to stop the game - he had a knee injury, so he put tape on his knee, which slowed down the game - because the game was moving at a fast pace and at that time the batsman just wanted the ball to be bowled quickly. But we had to break the rhythm.

When I was fielding and talking to the bowlers, suddenly I saw Pant falling on the ground," Rohit said in a fun episode of The Kapil Sharma Show on Netflix. "The physiotherapist had come and he was tapping Pant’s knee. Klaasen was waiting for the match to resume. I am not saying this is the only reason but it could be one of them - Pant sahab used his common sense and things turned in our favour," said the Indian captain who ended the ICC drought for a country of 1.5 billion people by bringing the World Cup trophy home after a gap of 13 years.

Ever since, the memory is fresh in the minds of every Indian fan and probably South Africans too, as India won a match they were never expected to win and the Proteas once again succumbed at a crucial moment in their cricketing history.
